unfortunately i will be selling my 3.0 sport in the next couple of months. lots of mechanical work has been undertaken from brakes, suspension and pretty much all of the bushes. The car had previously been written off due to damage to the passenger door rear wing and bumper, i have changed the rear wing leaving the door and bumper to be repaired/ sprayed
my dilemma is should i get the car repaired or sell as is ?
i have had quotes from £750 for the front bumper door and rear bumper blended in to £300 for just the door and rear bumper to be prayed
i would rather not have to sell but have a 944 in my garage which i really need to work on.
advice will be greatly appreciated.

IMO I think you be be better off selling it as it is, because its been a cat C or D you will only be looking at 60% of the value, so I think money spent would be a waste.

I have found cat C and D don't make much difference in price on cars of this age. It is more down to condition. Saying that some buyers would not touch a C or D car, others aren't bothered.
I have just picked up a very nice 2.8 facelift with 51K on the clock. Immaculate condition apart from a large hole in the rear window. Sold as water/flood damaged due to the fact the window has let in water. Would this stop you from buying an excellent low mileage car?

With your car being a 3.0 it is always going to be more sought after but panels needing painting will put a lot of buyers off. I would go for the £300 option.

Or swap your 944 for my 2.8 ;)

I would have to disagree Cat C/D makes no difference. It’s true you only need to break wind on a Z3 bonnet and you write it off. But it’s all about perception. They are worth about 60% of all good market value.

There has been and continues to be a stack of 3.0s available. Almost unbelievable number. eBay currently has 9. You’re lucky to get 1 normally. Prices have really suffered. £6k-£7k cars a year ago are £4K now. I can’t get my head round it. I think it will be temporary but probably for the rest of this season.

I would be inclined to bail out as is. Or hold onto it, fix it and wait for better prices.

I think it's all about your own expectation of it's value. What price would you let it go for as it is and what price if you had it painted ?

There are a lot of Z4's available for under 3k. I know its personal preference but I'm sure most buyers would go for a Z4 over a Z3.
I have 2x 2.8's on the drive and both were bought for £750 each, 120k &140k. Only immaculate low mileage cars will go for strong money and I still think Z4 prices will keep the values down.

How bad the damage looks could affect it.
You could look for a secondhand bumper and door as it’s popular colour (door should be easy but front bumper less so)

Thanks for all your replies. i thought the car was worth saving because its a 3.0 sport but having said that i do like the car and performance, and now the rear beam bushes have been done it handles really well.
i have decided to book it into a local garage to get them to check it over and to see whether its something that can be fixed. if it can i will get it fixed and then sprayed. i had intended to keep the car long term but as i mentioned earlier i have a 944 that i really do need to finish and haven't really the time or money to do both,i am gutted but needs must.
i like to sell my cars (usally at a loss) how i would like to buy them if that makes sense!

I'd sell it as it is , other wise you might spend a lot of money and get nothing back for it :p
