Im getting an intermittent P0170 code when checking with Creator C310+. Driving wise car seems to be running fine to me, maybe fuel consumption has been poor-not 100% sure, however had a good run the other day and fuel wise it seemed ok that time-should have made notes of mileage/fuel amount as I topped up to the brim. Do I leave it and just clear code whenever it pops up or maybe look to change MAF sensor as first port of call?

Have a look at live data of the fuel trims, if they are high then its a good indication that you have an air leak in the vaccum system causing it. You need to check all the rubber pipes and hoses across the engine for splits or cracks and holes. A smoke test is an ideal way of checking for leaks, usual suspect is the intake bellows that splits around the ribbed take off hose to the idle control valve on the upper intake hose. Seems odd you are getting that code as last time we looked at live data on yours it was all normal and that hose was replaced because it was starting to show cracks. Next time you are here we can plug it in and have a look, even do a smoke test. Bad Mafs do not always set codes they rather leave it to the car detecting high fuel trims that it can't compensate for then sets an eml after it reaches 20% correction and realises it can't fix it so lights the eml. Could be a bad Maf but need to check for air leaks first as oem Maf's are not cheap.

In live data on a graph display the fuel trim should be showing up as near enough 0% if its showing high then good indication its adding fuel to richen the mixture because it sees a lean mixture that its trying to correct, often due to unmetered air getting in somewhere in the vaccum system. Should be able tyo see it with the Creator 310+, I like to use my Engine Check Pro software on the laptop as this displays in an easy to read graph display. Last time we checked yours it was OK and stable after replacing that intake hose. Have you been doing anything under the bonnet since then, might have disturbed something?

Might well be an air leak, looks a bit higher than I would expect, could also be the Maf, could put my Maf on and see if that makes a difference. Whilst your tinkering unplug the Maf and see how that affects the fuel trims, unplugging it will cause the engine management to run in default settings.
