View attachment 42246mg that has been very reliable, paul the guy that owns it is quite ocd about its care tho
After my Zed the MG is the one I would buy but only the 160BHP version. No doubting the engineering in S2000, MX 5 etc, but not for me. In my price range that is, Morgan +8 outside my price range.

the reliability of the mg is suspect, they must not overheat as that can damage the engine. I did have the old mgb 1966 very nice car gold seal engine, loved it.

I can't get the feeling for a car made out of two old Metro's if I'm honest . . . . . . . The Mazda, a great little car, the Honda, nice but over priced.

the silver saloons in the pics are both well nice motors, a bmw m3 next to the mazda, that sounds awesome through open quad pipes, the other one is a japanese market twin turbo subaru, with some tweaks, its an auto that will keep pace with the m3, but its very thirsty, there used to be a porsche boxter 3,2, but was so unreliable it was swopped for the xk8, theres a new 640 grand coupe bmw nice but £70000, a lot of the folk i work with are car and/or motorbike nuts, and when theres a problem we try to help

Interesting photos and comments which are all pretty spot on. The Mk 1 & Mk2 MX5 s were great cars to drive and very reliable, but try finding one which hasn't got rusty sills and rear wings. That's usually the tip of the iceberg as well, those front supporting 'members' are also prone to rust. As an ex MX5 owner I always look around them when I see one parked and I hardly ever see one that isn't rusty. It was a great pity that such an exceptional little sportscar was let down by an issue that had largely been eliminated on other cars at the time.

rust, the bugbear of the old car, i like the old mg roadsters, even tho all the panels etc are available, i would not want the welding nowadays, the red mx5 my friend has, must have had an enthusiastic first owner, its coated in waxoyl and mostly original paint, strange how there all mostly prone to rust tho

Poor quality steel and even poorer coatings on it.:(

Tony.

ps. In one way it's a good thing, if they'd all survived we wouldn't be able move for MX5's

It's not so much poor quality steel as the wrong steel, and as you say poor quality control.
