Ordering parts from the E.U

I just paid the 20% vat and about £25 delivery which were all calculated on the ebay purchase before paying.

It came to my house. Biggest downside is it takes about 2 weeks.
I’ve bought loads of bike stuff from the US sometimes you get away without customs duty sometimes you don’t it’s the luck of the draw.

Bought this lovely helmet cheap in the US but had to pay £30 duty.its not competition legal over here as its missing the ACU sticker

Get the European seller to mark it as "Gift" with a value of 1€ or something along those lines!

Seriously though this BBC link gives some advice.

Do you think Calais will end up being a Garage Hotspot. Southerners traveling into the E.U to get all new parts on the car, ditch the boxed and absolutely nothing to declare on the way back.

"Yes indeed Mr Customs man. I did infact travel here with 3 way fully adjustable KW suspension and Eissenmanm exhaust system."

That’s an idea.... Le Zedshed Francais =))

I just sent an item to The Netherlands and the buyer was stung for 50e extra tax, he said the customs value needed to be less that 150e to avoid costs.

Shipping to Europe takes a while now.
I sent some straps to Germany on 24th Feb , via Parcel force. They were in German customs at Frankfurt Airport on 27th, and didn’t move again until 12th March via Deustchepost, and were delivered today 15th.

Having an American car, I’ve bought a lot from the States. They’re wonderful. Very, very well set up for Mail order. Need to be really.
I get parts faster sometimes than I do from England, never mind Europe. (Perth, Scotland)
S/H via Global shipping is faster than Europe and very much cheaper. Roll hoops, complete with fittings, £140 delivered. Including Duty. I’ve spotted some eBay sellers in Europe wanting to add a surcharge to UK buyers, that’s BEFORE eBay shipping and Duty.

I need a new helmet for this year. All the EU suppliers appear to have increased their prices, some are, dare I say, a little disingenuous in their final pricing. Then there are delays. Over 6 weeks to get an OMP helmet for my son, instead of the 15days advertised, means I’ve decided to order mine from the States. Delivery in 9 days eBay say. Saving £90, that’s after Duty and Carriage. Or, just over 1/3 of the cost of a HANS device i’d like. Unfortunately I can’t get THAT from the US.
Whilst I’ve been pecking this out, I’ve just had a message from Ireland about suspension I need, price and delivery are spot on, will be ordering that in a few minutes.

And that is where the problems lie Malc, parcels can be "forgotten" and left to stand for a couple of weeks making the seller look bad if the recipient doesn't check their shipping tracking data.

Tony.

I’ve just received a box of parts ordered through autodoc, although they come from Germany I did notice a UK (London) address on the website, parts took approx 10days to arrive, no additional charges.

After hearing of possible problems of parts coming in from the EU, I decided to buy British. Found a company website buycarparts.co.uk.
Selected all the parts I wanted, went to the PayPal site and confirmed the purchase. Then got a reciept from Auto doc, the parts will be delivered from Berlin, not what I was expecting, the waiting begins.
