Just giving my under bonnet the Cif treatment and have noticed this had disconnected. Im not sure if it was me or it was already like this??
What is it for??
What is it for??
Phew, the fact that it started made me think something like that. So just put back togetherIt's an earthing strap
If I just tape it will it be fine to drive etc until I get a replacement? If it will go back together properly then yes.
Stephen.
Thanks for this and is interesting.Curious fact....
Its main purpose is to electrically bond the hood or bonnet depending on where you are. One reason for that is to provide a ground path for stray electrical signals such as ignition noise thereby reducing AM radio interference.
pm you TonyI have some copper earth braiding which I acquired when the garage I was working at closed down in 1986. We were sent it by Chrysler in the late 70s or early 80s because when they decided to fit front brake pad wear sensors the radios picked up static from the front brakes, as Rudy has said. We were given this braid to earth the front struts onto the inner wings to stop this happening. We only had to do the cars we sold as a warranty item, the factory started fitting the earth wires at the same time so we didn’t use much. It has come in handy over the last 34 years or so.
Tony.
ps. If you want a length to make yourself one I can send you some.
