Oh Oh, just caught the last bit of news at 6 this evening but didn't get much detail, looks like the new mayor of London don't like our old cars( Zs) gonna charge an extra £10 per day for any vehicle over a certain age if he gets his way. He says its time we all purchased a new car if we want to drive in his city, well I for one don't and haven't driven in London for nearly twenty yrs now, am I really worried, No are you ????????

London is no place to drive never mind driving a Zed. Out on the open road is the place to be.
Oh, and how much more energy will be used to build your nice new car and whose air will that pollute? Don't suppose he did the maths on that.
Your next car is unlikely to be built in the Midlands, Oxford, Derby or Sunderland - we've just voted to export those plants elsewhere on economic grounds.... :-(
The brilliant joined up thinking of uk politics.

I'd rather stick a rusty screw driver in my ear than drive through London, in anything. Bit far from Cumbria so not really bothered.

The tube is OK but I find a Boris bike more fun and in some cases quicker.

Wouldn't have a new car if you gave me one. Had them and really don't like them. Find them boring. If the Mayor wishes to price me out of London so be it. There are plenty of other beautiful cities to visit. Oxford, Cambridge, Bath to name a few. I'm getting really fed up of so called government figures coming up with ridiculous rulings and filling us with bullshit! What percentage of UK citizens can comfortably afford a new car without signing there lives away to pay for it? It's just another way of getting the ecomomy moving!:mad::mad:

Was there a couple of years ago for a meeting at Sumitomo, Upper Thames Street, London office, could not wait to get it over with and out of the place, not the building/offices, that was a fantastic construction, but the city.....
And to keep on topic, I used Taxis....

Oh yeah, and just to go off topic again, you will probably have a hard time getting a bacon butty in the near future....

London has its first Muslim mayor - but who is he?

Planet London.... And they wonder why the rest of the country is so disjointed from the capital...dirty, (not in a soho way) expensive, no thanks... Unless Tony Blair is making an appearance at the Tower of London.

new car is great when someone else pays for it. Only ever had one and regretted it. Let someone else take the day one depreciation. Best cars are the six month old / 6-8k miles cars previously used by the manufacturers and dealers. Much cheaper, looked after and still years left on their warranty.

It will be coming to other cities soon. It's an inequitable form of road rationing. How about a joined up public transport policy and also tax those companies that close places and force their staff to travel much further distances so they can save costs. Never going to happen is it - that would need real vision.

Utopia mate. Sadly I don't think we'll ever see the like of that though.

I find the whole concept of a muslim mayor in our capital abhorrent. That's without looking into his personal background.

The old cars issue is a minor issue compared to the less visible decline of London which will only accelerate now.

It was a very, very sad indicitive day when he got elected.:(
