When we arrived up at Panama City on the Florida pan handle we checked into a Hotel right on the beach. We discovered that there was a car show on in the City over the weekend. Here are a few shots of what we saw,
First, in the car park was this beauty, just not too sure on the "stealth" paint job on a car as old as this?

I love these old Merc's, gorgeous curves.

This Pick-up was constantly up and down the street till about 10.00 when it started to quieten down a bit. Jesus it was quick, and LOUD.

This is where we stayed,
184.jpg

The street outside the Hotel where there were no sidewalks at all, you had to share the road with the cars. It looks like this is in the process of changing I must add.

Saw this Z next morning, nice car too.

Across the road was where we got breakfast.

Always eat where the locals eat  Two breakfasts for $16. Bargain.:)

That Merc is a beautiful. What model is it? I love the older cars with the curves. I don’t get it that car manufacturers don’t produce stuff like this anymore I’m sure there’s a market for. It, there’s lots of people doing restorations of these old classics.
Sorry Mark, no idea of the model mate as we didn't see the owner at all. @FRANKIE of @oldcarman will likely know?

Can' t seem to find a picture of a Merc with that exact front grille. It seems to be a car from '49--51. I think that may have been a custom made grille. This is a pict of a Merc from the 50's.........
Sorry.............can't seem to cut and paste as not the right format

Totally agree Mark. Modern cars are so mundane now. They don't have the inspiration to desgin anything with spark anymore. It's great when you go out to buy a new car and walk up and down rows of modern cars that all look the bloody same. :arghh:

Most modern cars are effectively "white goods" - who cares what your washing machine looks like as long as it washes clothes.

Unfortunately, many of todays drivers have no sense of, or interest in, road craft. Getting from A to B quickly is all that matters.:(

The Mercury lead sled has a Cadillac or Desoto grill from the 54/55 models and it is a 49-52 model. HTH. JIM

@t-tony that Merc looks very much like an old Buick. It's got a very Buick looking grill. Great looking car though with it's chopped roof, split screen and just the right amount of chrome. I'd love that on my drive

I agree mate, it would look nice on my drive too. Jim reckons it has a later grille but is a Mercury and I couldn't argue either way. Wish we'd had time, or made the time, to see the full car show before heading up to Pensacola.

They were very similar in style and shape which was strange being one is a Ford product and the Buick/Oldsmobile were GM. The styles of the late forties through the sixties are some of my favourites especially the 55/56 Pontiac line up. I have five out back here 3 four Drs and 2 safari wagon 2dr models. One 55 is my son's grad gift from 93 and is due for a new paint job as it's sitting while he lives in Santiago, Chile. I could go on forever but best cut this off for now!! JIM
Edit: it also looks to have 55 Pontiac side trim on it which is a common use on the chopped Mercs and Hudsons of that era. I wish there were a few more shots of it as it has been customized with some very subtle changes that I can't really pick out from the screen of my iPhone.
