Ok lets get serious and intellectual?

Before we start my part is the getting serious part and to show you how serious I am! I have opened a bottle of special Cognac and have a Carrs pasty in the oven and it doesn't get more seriousthan that.

Your job as fellow very helpful members is to provide the intellectual input to this problem which is now starting to irritate me. In a word "HARD WIRED DASH CAM"...............

Right ok eyes down.......... glass is full............. here we go............

DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO CORRECTLY HARD WIRE A NEXTBASE 412GW DASH CAM INTO MY 2014 e89 without giving me a nervous breakdown or having to incur a second mortgage and.............. mmmmmmm....I don't have a mortgagee so that should be...... oh never mind anyway does anybody know the answer. It would also be beneficial if the intellectuals that do know how to do it try to refrain from just answering "yes" and at least giving me a clue as to how I go about it.

Other than throwing myself at your mercy I will be forced to pay the local stealer £155+ to do it for me. My total toolkit is comprised of:

1 x Phillips screwdriver
1 x All purpose bicycle spanner
1 x Unused bricklayers trowel

Answers would be appreciated preferably before I finish the bottle............

Work backwards when fitting.

1. Fit the cam where you want it ( no tools required )
2. plug in the cable to the cam ( no tools required )
3. If fitting up by the mirror run the cable under the rubber across the hood rail ( no tools required )
4. Run cable down behind the door pillar rubber ( no tools required )
5. Run cable under dash by removing under dash panel, (Philips screwdriver, you have one )
6. Using a test lamp find cable with continual power with no key in £2.95 ( http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HEAVY-DUT...075604&hash=item4d39778efa:g:IJQAAOSwfcVUFnHZ
7. connect positive to that and negative to the car body

Point 6 above

Once you've removed the under dash panel, feed the hard wire kit wire through a grommet in the body, and you can then fit it straight into the fuse box. The hard wire kit comes with a "piggy back" fuse holder, so plugs straight in.

As @Jack Ratt says the hard wiring kit comes with a piggback fuse so if you can get access to the fuse box remove a ignition fed fuse and plug the piggy back into the fuse location and the put the original fuse back in the top.

looks as if this is fuse diag for E89 and fuses 6-10 are ignition fed.

Firstly thank you for your kind reply. However a few points immediately spring to mind........ even after three bottles.......... oh and the pasty is long gone!

Point 1. I have the Nextbase hard wire kit and after three days I managed to get the box open and it contains numerous bits that I have never seen in my life?
Point 2. I have an e89 Z4 and as hard as I try I still keep failing to locate anything rubber along the top of the windscreen. Everything is hard plastic even down to the sensor housing around the interior mirror which covers the rain sensors and the lighting sensors for the auto dimming interior mirror and the auto dip headlights?
Point 3. If I wire it to the ignition side it won't have power unless the engine is running in which case the parking mode on the camera won't work when the car is unattended?
Point 4. If I wire it direct to the live feed the battery drain sensors will register a notification on the dash which requires a dealer to reset at a COST?????

Why do you think I drink so much??????

It gets worserer and worserer by the day! Local Blackpool stealer want £155+ for fitting the dash cam and can't guarantee it won't trip the battery drain sensor?

Ha ha....... not deterred by this fiendish plot to rob me of my money I just spoke to the Preston stealer??? They will be happy to fit the dash cam with an initial estimate to do the work of £265+???? However as they have never seen my car and have never fitted a dash cam to a Z4 the price quoted is only an estimate and the final cost could be significantly higher??? (that means think of a number and double it). They are also unable to guarantee that it won't trip the drain sensor when they have fitted it.

At this rate I'll end up driving around with a go pro strapped to my head? mmmmmmmm...............now theres an idea?

When it comes to this stuff I'm as thick as mince, my local independent garage hard wired my NEXTBASE for £39 (1hr labour). It goes from the battery, through the fire wall, up the "A"pillar (under the Plastic cover) and tucked under the rubber seal along the top of the screen and comes out just shy of the rear view mirror. It comes on with the ignition. At this rate it'll be cheaper for you to come up here, get it fitted and go back via Crummock Water, Buttermere and Honister Pass I think they are taking the p***, if I'm honest.

Just wire it from an ignition fed source and switch off the parking bit, I would.

Ok boys this is a very sad day indeed. I have thrown the towel in and admitted defeat as there is little or no chance of a knight in shining armour galloping over the hill on a pure white steed to rescue me. My beloved Waminda is booked into the local stealers to have the dash cam fitted.

To be honest its not the £155+ for fitting that saddens me? Its not the fact that the esteemed members of these hallowed halls were unable to help me in my quest for normality?............. No not at all dear members it is simply the fact that I have lost another reason to continue to open bottles of brandy whilst I waited for help? It is truly a sad day........... oh and I've run out of pasties as well............... can life get any worse?

Ok boys and girls here is your definitive solution. (no animals suffered during the fitting process and owners following these instructions do so at their own risk apart fromb @t-tony and @nodged who both must do so at their own risk?)

Take a 2014 e89 Z4 x 1 and an Nextbase 412GW dash cam and add a Nextbase Hard Wire kit.
Get your local stealer to run the cable for you so that the accessory plug ends up close to the rear of the centre console arm rest.
Buy an Anker Portable Power supply from Amazon. Buy an accessory adapter from Amazon USA and viiolla no power drain notifications, parking mode works.
