I need a bit of advice. I want to change the oils in my diff and gearbox but have seen so much info regarding the best oils to use I am now a little bit concerned I'll use the wrong ones.

The best I have come up with is:
Diff --- Castrol SAF - XJ
Gearbox ---- Amsoil MTF

Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

I was going to get oils for mine and do them but after reading many threads I decided I'll wait until someone asks and gets a definitive answer ;)

I have been using http://www.opieoils.co.uk for my oils during 5 years of Zed ownership. Enter your vehicle info in look-up table - if still in doubt contact them direct - they have always been very helpful with me.

Hi Niall and welcome to the site.

You're spot on for the 2.8ltr Diff. For the gearbox I settled on Castrol Syntrans B 75W. The capacity of each is just over the 1 litre, so you will need 2 of each. Both diff and gearbox drain plugs have copper crush washers and I bought replacements from the local BMW garage, extortionate at almost £5 each but its better than getting a leak.
