with regard to the oil pump, does it have to be changed at any stage? what miles is it good for? im hitting 124,000 at this stage and am thinking about doing it, whats the word on the street?

Or the engine overheating, causing any carbon residue to become unattached and it starts to circulate with the oil. This will eventually clog the gauze of the pick up strainer which also starves the oil pump. More likely on an engine which has had very infrequent oil changes.Usually the failure on new builds is the lack of priming the oil pump and filling the galleries before firing up the engine. Takes out the oil pump and usually the cams and rings if the engine happens to fire. Usually the problem with an oil pump is the pickup falling off into the pan starving it. JIM
