Hi all

So my 3.0i has an oil leak, a mechanic friend said it is probably coming from oil filter housing from a very quick look

So my question is, as someone who has just bought this Z3 with the view to learning how to do bits and bobs on a car, is this a step too far? Or should I give it a crack?

Any advice about the task would also be appreciated!!

Thanks
Jai

I'll have a look for a how to on here!

Yeah I have been looking at kitting out the garage with some decent bits to help

hi Jai if you are struggling try contacting T-Tony he runs Zedshed Midlands which is at Torksey. I am sure he could help you

There is a really good gasket supplier on eBay. Cheap as chips and good stuff. I will dig out the name if you need it. Recommended to me by a very knowledgeable BMW man. I bought all new gaskets for my M54 3 litre a while ago and they are all fine.

I use Elring brand gaskets and round rubber cam cover bolt seals on Z3 and Z4's done a feew now and never ad problems. Use Blue Hylomar gasket sealant only around the half moon shapes at from and back of the cover where gasket changes direction. Oil filter housing gasket requires alternator removed to get at the bolts holding it to the engine block. All done with suitable sockets and spanners.

I would check to make sure that oil hasn't contaminated the accessories drive belt...if it has that will need replacing too..FWIW..

OFHG replacement in isolation isn't too difficult a job for most home mechanics..need a torque wrench to state the obvious..
