Similar happened to Carrie and I on a country lane a few weeks back, we came around a bend and the whole road was taken up by a tractor, I reacted and went straight up on the brass verge

I'd be asking the farmer to pay for the damage. The size of farm machinery is getting out of hand and they frequently don't slow down putting other road users at risk.
Yes they have a job to do but they can't do it at everyone else's expense and at times safety.

Yes, that wheel/kerb grinding sound is one of the worse noises in the universe. And circa £80 a listen!

Just had mine re-furbed, all four were like that from the previous owner, they look as good as new now, so good job it was pre not post having them done.

Does that say 'rim protector' on your tyres?

That's got rid of the big marks, now you need to find a finer grade kerb for the next stage
