Dies anyone else still have the original extinguisher under the drivers seat?
I was wondering whether to get a new one or just leave it alone

I had one on my car but I sold it about 10yrs ago. Some people like to keep everything as OEM and I can appreciate that, but to me it was just cabin clutter so off it went.

I have one still..came with my Zed fixed to the front of the drivers seat ..I have removed it now as not sure it would actually still work anyway…besides when my car is on fire I am not going near it with anything!

You could probably get it recharged but I don't think it would be cheap as it's a one off. That said, I've still got an early 80s BCF in the boot, in the green and still works. It's about 20 years past it's sell-by date though so could just be a book end.

I am sure you could get it tested/recharged if you want to keep it in working order. i have a couple that I bought from a classic car show years ago, I get them checked by the man who comes to do our office extinguishers safety check every year. Fortunately never had to use one.

A 1 kg powder will put out a sizeable fire if used properly.

Give a powder extinguisher a really good shake occasionally, the powder compacts over time, which renders it useless.
Turn if upside down beside your ear, if you feel, or hear, it go ‘thunk’, it’s useless. You may/should hear the powder fall softly, depends how good your hearing is. If you ever go to a Motorsport event early, you’ll see the Marshals doing exactly that, the needle may be in the green, but they always check the powder is loose.

Some places will refill, lots don’t wish to because they don’t have a gauge.
