Odometer brightness

The headlight pull does not adjust the brightness of this so I presume I am going to need to remove the instrument cluster and change the bulb, whcih bulb does it need behind the mileage?

The dimmer switch works on the Speedometer and "clocks" in general but not the Odometer specifically as such. New bulb(s) needed.

Tony.

The knob adjusts the instrument cluster, I think there must be a bulb out so need to replace.

also noticed the bulb behind the heater controls must also have gone out!

Yeah, as Tony mentioned, the knob controls all of them - sorry I forgot to ask that - so yeah it must be a bulb. Bulbs for the heater are available from BMW, its a nice fiddly job to replace them though, I hope you have small hands. Theres plenty posts on here about how to do it (there are 2 bulbs if I remember rightly)

There are two 1.5 watt bulbs for the display. They are beige, all the other bulbs are black (1.2w).
It may be an idea to check all the other bulbs aswell while the cluster is removed (cos it's a pain to do).
I have two working bulbs you can have for postage, as well as some spare black bulbs for the other lights, if you want them.

That is very good of you, thank you!

So thanks to the help of Pond I have swapped out the bulbs and can now cleaerly read the mileage of 67,000 miles!

Popping out the instrument cluster was straight forward enough following the instructions on here and I did no teven need to disconnect the wires as I could easily reach the bulbs.

Quick question though -

Which lights should I actually see when the ignition is turned on?

Glad the bulbs arrived safely.
Someone else will have to give you the ignition bulbs info, as I can't remember and my BMW cluster is no longer anywhere near the car, let alone connected.

I'll stick a video up in 5 with dash start sequence 99 pre face-lift ( soon as i go film and put on YouTube.)
Stephen.

This is whats comes on on my dash leaving only handbrake warning lamp lit
