Hi, can anyone recommend an OBD code reader that will work on a 1999 Z and a modern 1 series, only Im thinking of buying a 1 series as my every day car and it would be good if it could read both cars.

Creator 310+ or 410+ both bmw specific and will work on most obd equipped bmw models.

For the z3 you will also need a 16 pin to 20 pin obd adapter to get full module access you need to use the 20 pin round obd port in the engine bay ( 16 pin under column only on later z3 and only limited access) your 1 series will work fine with the 16 pin under the dashboard.
Stephen.
