Hi,

My OBC (factory console unit, not OBD2 ) packed in recently. Which made me think if an OBD2 Bluetooth unit could be used to get useful info to a car stereo display?

I see some stereo head units now support this, such as the Pumkin one.

Anyone had an experience of this an if anything decent/useful can be seen?

Also, I've got a Torque Pro BT adapter plugged into my 1999 OBD port and that works. Not sure what to do with it! :) Is there a app which works best for BMW and Z3 over the others. There seem to be so many apps. Wonder what is best for this car?

I use this. It was only £10. Seemed to work fine on my 1999 Z3. Worked with most of the apps that said they support bluetooth. Brings back a lot a sensor data and revs in real-time. But I don't really know how to use it fully. I was more curious than anything else.

Funny to think I'm in IT and interface all kind of stuff and have loads of home automation stuff.. and it took 20 years to realise I can connect my old car to the internet!! :) I was VERY surprised to find such and old car could do this!

In Torque you can set the speed for it to talk to the ODB2 adapter. Try setting that to slow. I had an old eBay job that only worked at slow speed.

cheers

which app are you using? one thing I found was that if you have one app and it doesn't work and you try another, the 2nd app looks like it's not working, but it's bc the first one you tired still has the device open.

When you use, make sure it's just one app. and when you change to try another app make sure you do "Force Close" on the app you were using. I found most work to one degree or another when you do that.

@zixel - Ha! I realised I had not force closed the apps. So I started again and used re downloaded torque lite. Force colsed Torque Pro and cleared the cache. Put in that adapter and turned on ignition and then opened up Torque lite---- and it worked!! I did the same again for Torque Pro but thats not connecting. So it looks like its the lite version for me!
You are right about what you said as I had to start afresh as when I gave the Pro version a go then tried the Lite version it didnt work.
Thanks for the tip! Saved me more trips to the hermes drop off shop lol
