Obd port no power

Hi , everybody

Looking for some advice , had a engine light come on ,checked the codes with my code reader , changed the sensor ,want to turn the light off but can't as myou code reader won't connect to the obd port now,tried another reader same thing ,what would cause the obd port not to connect? I've checked fuses wiring ,can't see anything, help!

I used the inside port which worked fine ,now it isn't. ..

The interior port only reads limited functions as far as I'm aware, the under bonnet one reads them all.

Check pin 1 for 12v with igntion turned on. Also check the Ground connection on pins 4 and 5
Also check Fuse 26 in the fusebox underbonnet.

As the others have said the 16pin socket will only read the engine module for codes, you need to plug in to the underbonnet 20 pin socket to read all system modules using a 20pin to 16pin adapter cable which is available on ebay for little money.

Seems odd you read codes from the 16 pin socket before you changed a sensor then found your reader wouldn't connect. It's either a duff connection on the rear of the socket or on your code reader if you find the socket is getting 12v. You might want to plug your reader into another car just to check if its still working.

The inside port should read all engine codes.

The under bonnet port reads engine codes plus other codes like chassis ones.

I always use the under bonnet port but in theory the inside port should be okay here.

However the inside port is potentially just a satellite of the under bonnet port. So the problem may exist there too.

Stupid thought. Have you got the ignition turned on when reading the codes?

If you have an Auto the inside OBD connector reads those codes too.

Thanks for everybody's help, it started working again having left it for a few days strange
