obd and Torque app on a 2.8 m52 ?

Hi i have tried to get torque app running on my 1998 m52 engined 2.8 with the 21 pin underbonnet connector and its not playing ball.. car is feb 1998 m52 engine I also had problems a few weeks ago in vanity BMW getting torque to work on someones z3m not connecting through the 21 pin underbonnet...

I have been running torque app successfully on my august 1998 m44 1.9 engined car for a number of years with no problem is an m52 or z3m obd different ? seems like it could be...

thanks i have a look... just thought it was coincidence that a z3m and my 2.8 wont work... the obd reader is live as it shows up as obd device on my android phone but maybe the data pins are not connected..
