Acoustic Cameras are measuring the amount of noise from vehicle exhausts in areas of London and if it’s above a set limit you get £100 fixed penalty.
Whats next?

Perhaps I should get one outside our house to collar Ducati riders who come past like they’re on a track somewhere.

Crickey - I wasn't aware that there was a legal limit. Presumably pre 2016 cars can't be fined? Not that any of my cars are allowed in London now anyway...

Noise laws are very tricky as certain cars are allowed to be louder than others. For instance, you are not allowed to modify your Corsa to be as loud as a Lamborghini.

The Lamborghini that was deemed to be too loud may well have been completely standard and legal according to all the relevant laws (Construction and Use, etc.)

There are also many factors that contribute to high (or low) readings. It will be interesting to see what happens if these fines are challenged in the courts.

When it comes down to the MOT test, it’s down to the tester’s discretion. Imagine how that goes.
