That's what it was all about @Sean d. If I was signing on the line to buy the car I wanted to save money on the actual running costs. :)

My works van had to go in for a service yesterday and they gave me a new Fiesta 1.0 turbo as a courtesy car for the day. The dash said 22 miles to Zero, and as I was going to Pompey docks from Eastleigh I put £6 in it. The dash then said 96 miles to Zero. I was a little sceptical that a gallon of petrol would give me over 70 miles.

Anyway, went to Pompey docks and back around 50 miles and when I took it back to the garage the dash was saying 84 miles to Zero. Work that one out. =))

These new petrol engines are really great and are returning better mileage than a lot of diesels. There's no torque though, even with a turbo, but the way things are advancing technology wise, that might be sorted soon

Didn't show us the average speed for the trip ??

Petrols are really good now and less complications than Diesels.

Wonderful. If you gave me the car for a day I bet I could get that to a nice normal figure. ;)

On a serious note, the savings would add up quickly. I would be spending less than half of what I currently spend on fuel every week if I returned that sort of mpg. Just did a quick calculation and in a year I'd save just slightly south of a grand. That's excluding cheaper insurance and road tax. good choice.

That was my sad reality, even our illustrious leader Mr Hyde seems to be in the same boat, cheap to run, no new tyres every 10,000 miles, no obsessive cleaning, cheap to insure and tax, no need to mod all the time, no fear of where to park it in a car park.... there's a lot to be said about a cheap daily run-around. Hell I even think @Lee has one.

Had to pop up to Rotherham this afternoon in the Focus and this was the MPG achieved on route. More than happy with that.

@spurs fan in a coupe the parking problem is spot on, having to worry about to where to park everytime you go out and then worry about whether your car is okay whilst you're out is more than just a little annoying.

It makes sense from a financial point of view as well as a petrolhead. I use my daily to save money and then when I do drive the zed its always special. Keeps that feeling of looking forward to driving her.
