Finally got shut of the row created by the so called smog pump on my 2000 2.0 Auto. Removed the pump a while ago and drilled out the 6 alloy rivets holding the parts of the unit together. Got around to stripping it down totally today and replaced the ball bearing at the end of the motor shaft, the other end has a bronze self-centering bush. Replaced the 6 alloy rivets with 6 screws, nuts and spring washers. Sourced the bearing from a specialist supplier in Lincoln for the princely some of 4 English pounds and 33p - BARGAIN. Pump now runs as quietly as a hairdryer !!!!

Sure am, it's quite satisfying making something useful again rather than just bolting on a new part. Plus the fact that a 2nd hand one would have been at least £30 ish.:D
