I have a squeaking / scraping noise from my rear wheel. I have had a look at the brake pads and rotor and there are no signs of contact or wear. Could the rear wheel bearing be the culprit or is it a possibility it could be something come adrift in the handbrake. (the hand brake works fine)

+1 I'd put my vote on the handbrake mechanism too.
Morning Ken - not the best of mornings for an Aussie to be asking for advice after last night. ;) but well done.

Have you had the drum off and checked retaining pins/springs. http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=CH72-EUR---Z3-BMW-Z3 1.9&diagId=34_0930.

If there's any corrosion on backplate the retainer can pull through and the shoes can move about.
Thanks, I took the drum off and part of the brake linings has come off one of the shoes and was hamming things up. looks like they have been seriously overheated at some time.
Not really a Union fan, I follow League and my team just got beaten by one point tonite in the grand final, so I feel your pain.
