Hi all

New member over here in flat Lincolnshire.

Not a Z owner at the moment, but now on the look out for one!

I’m on the lookout for a Z3 - more concerned by condition, mileage etc than anything else.

I’m basically looking for a nice, straight, well maintained Z3 with low-ish miles. Budget is around 3k - will spend less or a bit more for the right one tho.

Am I looking at decent 1.9’s only or do I stand a chance of getting a really good 6 pot?

If anyone knows of one or might be looking to sell theirs then let me know! I figured I’d join up here first and see if you guys might be able to help rather than buying a lemon and then taking all your time up asking questions whilst I fix it!

Should I post a wanted ad up as well in the wanted section? Any advice/help gratefully received!

Hi and welcome, I'm also in Lincolnshire, you should get a decent 2.2 for 3k, I'm near Louth and will gladly look over a Z for you.

:welcome:to the forum from West Cumbria (A tad less flat). You should be able to tap into 1.9, 2.0 and 2.8 for circa £3k though you'd need to allow a few £££'s for the undercarriage etc. Take a look in the For Sale section and pop a Wanted Add up, always something going for sale. Good luck.

That’s very kind of you. I’m down the south of the county but not too far tho.

I’ve not seen any good candidates yet - then again I’ve not been looking too hard yet. I thought I’d start here. I quite like the idea of trying to find a car that’s been enthusiast-owned if possible, certainly rather than a random car in a local dodgy forecourt dealer

Yes, I think I’ll pop a wanted ad up!

I agree with Sean. £3k will get you a tidy enough 2.2.

I’d want a spanker of a 1.9 for £3k ;)

From the research I’ve been doing prices do seem to vary quite a bit (I do accept seasonal variation tho!) seems private/dealer low/high mileage good/poor condition doesn’t seem to make a huge difference to what people want in asking price!

Hello and welcome to the forum. There's a lovely low mileage 1.9 for sale on here for well under £2k, rare colour too

Haha! Yes, I’ve been pointed at that one already - it’s quite a way from me, so I’ll probably see if anything a bit closer turns up - but if not then it’s def a possibility!

I wish! I’m right at the east coast, so it’s 1.5 hrs to M1 for me - 2.5-3 hrs all in, which makes it a 6 hour ish round trip.

Having said that, that’s not too bad. I need to work out if I want to spend the full budget and get as good as I can or go low with room to improve.

My first Z was a 2.0l six pot, as much as I loved it and fully restored it I had an over whelming pang for more power, I sold the 2.0l a few weeks ago and I'm now restoring a 2.8. lesson learned,
Here's the 2.0l in all its glory

Thanks Tony! Very helpful. I’m south side - east of Spalding right by the wash.

Thanks! Yes - I’d rather not buy something completely random from either eBay or a dealer - specially given the age of most z3’s, and I’d rather have something with plenty of known history as I’d like it as a keeper that I can tinker with and improve over time.
