Went to clean screen this morning but only wipers, when I returned home topped up water but not the problem. Cant hear the pump motor, fuse or pump motor failure ?

Any suggestions.

Thanks Geoff

If the wipers engaged then it suggests the switch is fine... So I'd say your fuse/motor diagnosis is spot on

Usually a car will have fuses for the wash/wipe system as a whole. Not common for washers to be fused separately, but I'm not saying they aren't. My first port of call would be the pump itself Geoff, easy enough to test for power at the plug at the pump.

Tony.

The fuses are all related to the windscreen washer system so may do different jobs all part of the system one of which i presume is the pump.
As said a volt meter over the terminals pump end will prove the circuit if dead check fuses then test again if ok reconnect, if it blows theres a pump short, replace pump

Checked fuses but number 3 missing ? others OK
Could see wet below bottle and the level had gone down since filling yesterday.
Went to see my mate the manager of the local garage, he rattled the bottle and it worked, so home now have taken the bottle out and the leak is from where the pump sits in. Will clean connections and see if can seal where the pump sits with a little grease or ?? and report back.

Its a rubber grommit isn't it and i think the pump as it pushes through expands for the seal it may just be dirt as long as the bottle is all good

Have cleaned it all up put a little grease on rubber seal, but it still leaks. Might try clear multi purpose silicone or
silicone lubricant or maybe it is not pushed right home. Will have another look after lunch

You could buy a new grommet from BMW Geoff.

Yes Tony if I have to, but I think that I have found the problem. With the grommet on the pump it will not go right home, hence the leak (I think) I have put the grommet in the bottle first with a bit of Silicone Lubricant then inserted the pump, put bottle back into position and locked up, filled, tested and so far no leaks.
If the pump not being pushed right into bottle was the problem that goes back to when I purchased the car and insisted on a new MOT. It failed and one of the things was wipers and washer so may be who ever did the job did not put it back right.
Fingers crossed.

Sopers dont have one, anything that I have asked them for they did not have, only a small leak when operated, so after MOT will buy a new pump.

Good news, passed its MOT this morning and pump still working with a small leak when operated. If there is no change I will replace the pump.
TR4 went well to and from show, great weather and crowds of people lots of interest in the car and on Sunday there were 14 Triumphs from the Somerset triumphs ie TR3, 3a, 4. 4a, 5s, 6s and Stags.
