No Remote Lock / Unlock on '96?

Hello all,

I have a feeling this is just going to come down to one simple answer, and I have just been doing a lot of assuming as to what my car has and I was simply wrong.

The car is '96 Z3 Roadster, bought cheap and in so-so condition, simple Sunday afternoon backroads car.

It only came with one key, the master without the light. I just assumed a '96 BMW would have had remote locks on it, and again assumed this would have been handled by a fob since there is no button on the key. So I ordered up a cut "diamond" key with buttons thinking this can be programmed and operate the doors. Using all the programming instructions out there, nothing happens at all. I read a little about looking at the alarm module and putting it into learning mode, but after removing the glovebox, I don't have an alarm module and no siren under the hood, so I am guessing this car didn't come with an alarm. And then after looking at the "brick" fob online that would have come with the car had it had an alarm, they are just simple on/off alarm remotes.

So, lot of writing there for a simple question, did the '9 Z3 Roadster not come with remote locks?

Thanks
