Over the winter period, I decided to get some of the Zs bodywork restored. This included repainting both the doors, which were removed from the vehicle, stripped of all fittings, painted, reassembled and refitted. The car now looks great, but on collection I got caught is a brief shower on the way home, which reveals I now have a leak😢

The car did not leak before the work (not that common from reading other posts) and as the doors were the only thing removed, it is logical that these are the cause.

The hood and rubbers on the hood frame were not removed, nor was the rubber on the A pillars and across the top of the screen.

The leak seems to be coming in on the driver’s door at the top of the frame between the quarter light and main door window. From what I have seen the passenger door is OK.

Also when driving at speed there is also wind noise from this area that was not here before.

I know there are many posts out there about leaks and adjustments (I have read many of them) so sorry if I am raking over old ground, but this is something I would like to get resolved.

From what I am seeing it is almost like the frame needs to be angled in a bit more at the top to make a tighter seal.

I am happy to have a go at sorting it myself, or if anyone knows of any decent places in the midlands that would be able to/willing to tackle such work I would be happy to put it in their hands.

I was certainly excited at getting the Z looking beautiful again, but this has certainly put a dampener (literally) on things.

Any help or suggestions appreciated.🙂

Though perhaps the moral of the story is - if it don't leak, don't touch it!

Regards,

Nick

My suspicion is that the vapour barrier was not put back properly. My car has had some paint done in the past and it’s the same thing. I have a breeze coming through the tweeters at speed and can’t really leave her out in the rain because water comes in from behind door cards.

Probably best to take it back. If it's leaking at the top of the quarter light there are two bolts on the underneath of the door slacken them off & push the top of the window in & retighten.

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions.

Did not think about the vapour barrier - I will take a look.

While I agree with "if you bend it, you mend it" if the person who bends it can't or does not want to mend it then it's not worth persuing it. It's probabbly going to end up with a bad fix or no fix at all.

I have tried to see if there are any places out there who can help, but so far I have not had much look, so I think the only option if for me to try myself.

Hope it is as simple as slckening off the bolts on the door bottom and adjusting.

Wish me luck 🙂
