Hi sorry to ask seat question but can’t immediately find the answer ...

I have a pair of red leather Oregon seats which do fwd/rev up/ down fitted with yellow female plug.- pic 1.

I want to fit them into my earlier z3 which has connections coming out of floor as in pic 2.

I can cut the yellow male plug off of the seat donor vehicle as i am breaking it - pic 3.

try as I might, I can’t find a simple schematic anywhere that says solder red wire on male Yellow plug to blue wire out of car floor ?. Am I not grasping something fundamental ? There’s loads of talk about using Bmw connector looms etc etc but having built my own boot lid loom I can’t see this is difficult ?.

next question then is are the red Oregon seats heated ? What do I need to do if they are ? If wiring exists under console this will differ from switch shape as using later console

Help anyone please restore my sanity !,
I will say that maybe I will need to have additional power feeds into the yellow male plug as looking under the seats my cloth seat only had one motor (fwd/ rev) whereas new seats have fwd/ rev and up/ down

You need to get some seat loom adapters. They are around £60 each from BMW. They enable you to fit facelift seats into a pre facelift car

If you're capable of building a boot loom you should be able to manage a seat loom. Or two. Careful work with a multimeter and lots of thinking will help, the original heated seat elements are a bit of a PITA, had to repair mine not long after I got the car and the drivers seat doesn't seem to be heating now. Been thinking about updating the element bit, it's just a bit of wire anyway, to something like these, https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/4pcs-Car...=1726194613140a5b82f5b946429eaf651278116b63ec sure I remember someone on here doing the same a while back but I may be wrong.

Thanks guys - a bit of background - I have Parkinsons and therefore have a limited window in which I can work every day without tremor . I enjoy the challenge of solving problems and yes am more than capable of using a multimeter however with limited time and little spare cash (I don’t believe in paying BMW £120) I don’t want to reinvent the wheel if someone on this previously hugely helpful resource has solved the selfsame issue

Thanks

The simple way to deal with the seatbelt pre tensioner wiring is just unbolt the t45 on the side of the seat and swap the pretensioner round.

There only seems to be one loom used on the Z3 (someone will tell me if I'm wrong) so even if your car hasn't got all the options fitted there's probably somewhere to plug things in, tucked away out of harms way.

Had to happen. I'd nip out and hang my sorry head in shame, but Boris says no.:rolleyes:But there will be spare plugs for any unfitted options, and the wiring/plugs may change but this isn't too complicated, feed and earth to the seat motors and feeds and earth for the heated elements. And the pretensioners, don't know if they changed much. And passenger seat occupancy wiring, but that must be an on/off switch, basically, surely? There's plenty of this sort of thing https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/5Set-2-8...hash=item288f9ecc52:m:mQkHZudnPRwy1HEYe-Q_G1g from our good friends at ebay, other sources are available.

I’ve not really thought this too far through, but can’t you just swap the seats over and leave the bases as they were?

Might lose the heated element

That or just unbolt and disconnect the seat from the ‘base’ (black cage with the motors and spindles fitted to it). - better descriptions are available!

You should be able to keep the forward/ backward and up / down features ( not all passengers side do both)
