Hi everyone, I'm Baz.

Just joined and I'm looking for an E89. Took a 28i out for a test drive yesterday but not sure about the pearlescent white paint. I'd prefer a blue or black so will be looking at more before making a decision. The test drive did confirm it's the right car for me though!

Once I've got one, no doubt I'll be back with questions.

Cheers for now, Baz

Thanks guys.

I'm based in Watford, Hertfordshire.

I'd love a 6 but it will need to double as a daily so will go for the 2.0 Turbo for slightly better economy. Looking at both 20i and 28i.

Ideally blue, black or silver. Waiting for some cash to drop which will set my budget and permit the search to begin in earnest.

I miss my 20i MSport Auto..

Had great balance and with re-map and later larger turbo at 305bhp was more than enough to nip along.

You probably know you can re-map a 20i to equal or exceed a 28i capabilities for a modest fee?

I had the 8 speed ZF box..great combo..

Enjoy your search…

Hi Baz,
There are two words important when looking for an E89 in my opinion: ROOF and WATER.
The folding hardtop roof is very, very complicated and they are expensive to fix (at a garage). Always check the roof on any car opens and closes several times with no issues and locks properly.
Always check the boot (under the lift up floor) for water, or water marks from previous leaks. The battery, roof motor, hydraulic pump and a myriad of electrical wiring is in there.

I would also not pay the premium for a 28i. The N20 engine is identical on the 18i, 20i and 28i. Just different engine maps from the factory. An 18i or 20i with a very safe and cheap remap will be more interesting to drive than any standard 28i.

They are generally great cars, so good luck with finding one. I like them so much I am getting another one this week after missing the last one so much!

Another fairly common issue again water related is the rear lamp cluster.
Prone to indicator failure due to water damage
Led unit so full new light is needed.

Yep, replaced both mine last summer for the post LCI ones. Cost is eye-watering.

I was lucky in that both had been replaced on mine when I bought it.
