Hi, I have just purchased a red Z3 2Lt with hard top 81K miles. This is my first BMW which I bought as a project to keep. I am 82 years old and over the past few years i have restored 13 MX5 MK1s and i thought it was time for a change. I am very impressed with the overall engineering of the car but I am not too happy with the steering, it seems rather stiff, is this normal or have I got a problem. I live in Weston-s-Mare so I will go to the meet-up next month and hopefully some kind soul will drive my car and tell me if I have a steering problem.

82, taking on a Z3 restoration. Respect!
Hi and welcome, You will find the steering heavy after the nimble MX5, but obviously there may be a problem.

Hi and welcome from me near Lincoln, as a mere whippersnapper of 65 I would want to teach you to suck eggs, but, have you checked front tyre pressures and disconnected both track rod ends to see if any tightness is in either of the front hubs?

Tony.

Hi everyone many thanks for your good wishes. I have not looked at any part of the steering yet I thought I would ask the question first. I have checked the tyres and the tracking. Just about to change the tear discs and pads, then I will go through your various suggestions. Many thanks again to you all🤓

Hello and :welcome: Also check the universal joint in the steering column between bulkhead and steering rack, can become stiff/seize, lubricate it and see if things improve?
