Hi all

Typing as traveling into city to pick up a black 2005 Alpina Z4 Roadster S. Can’t wait to drive her home!

Already left a message on the site after Bowser details as the roof motor sounds as though it’s done unfortunately.

I’m based in Hornchurch.

Any helpful pointers (on the car) very welcome.

Cheers
Tommy.

Hello and welcome to the forum. Z4 roof motors are a common woe but an easy fix. You just need to relocate it and you're sorted

Thanks Guys

Just back, roof motor definitely gone, some water ingress into battery compartment, needs a new front spoiler, one rear drivers tyre slow leak and the power steering decided to disappear 2 miles form home! The engine purrs though!!

Bit worried about the water in the boot and power steering - any of your guys know if these are known issues?

Cheers
Tommy

Electric power steering is definitely a known issue, although not that common for it to actually stop working altogether. Water in boot, I would check the roof drains at the rear wheel arches (plenty of videos on YouTube) if they're blocked it could account for water in boot and roof motor dying. Also rear light unit seals (is the boot carpet/floor panel wet?) and 3rd brake light seal worth checking.

Tony.

Thanks Tony

The car was fine for the hour drive home from central London, just took one of the kids round the block in it and it just went, it’s now intermittently cut out, although more out than in.

The seems to be more water damage behind the passenger side rear light, but will have a look at the gully per your pointer. There is a puddle in the battery compartment.

Going to see if the BMW local independent in Harold Wood can give me a price to sort it all out, need a respect too!

Cheers
Tommy

Hi from Mansfield. @Nodzed is the only other on here I know to have a Z4 Alpina. I believe you can have the roof motor placed elsewhere to avoid water getting at it again.

Hi and welcome from Warwickshire :welcome:

As said several times, the roof motor is a relatively simple fix - they rarely fail, just need some tlc and move it from the location down behind the passenger door and into the boot.
If the rubber drains get blocked it fills up inside the wing panel and drowns the roof motor in its plastic canister. Eventually the motor stops working. Also, the oil may need topping up.

Even though you've found a possible source for the wet boot, it's worth checking the 3rd brake light. That is a common source of water ingress.

Thanks for all the replies and hello’s!

I’m hoping the local garage will be able to resolve all and get the car looking first class again working bankrupting me.
