Here are a couple of pictures. Slide the passenger seat as far back as it will go. You can get an idea of where my flap and the sensors are by the position of the metal seat runner bolted to the floor. It is the outside (left hand) runner that you can see in my photo.

When you lift the flap you see a plastic cover, as in my first photo. This simply lifts off and underneath are the two sensors. I hope this helps. My Lateral Acceleration Sensor was replaced under the dealer's warranty when I bought the car in July 2017. I believe this sensor has to be calibrated using BMW software.

I later had to replace the Yaw Rate Sensor and I got a refurbished one on ebay from this guy https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bmw-Yaw-...289-6754289-/292755204966?hash=item442991eb66. Mine cost £140 and has worked without trouble from the moment I fitted it. I think this is the component that is giving your Rotation Rate Error. My simple reader gave much the same error, but then I bought the official INPA software (only about £30) and that gave the specific Yaw Rate error (Gierraten).

I meant to say, with the flap it isn't strictly necessary to remove the seat as the sensors are just in front of the seat, not underneath it. However, if the foam is full of water (mine was super-saturated and probably held several pints - it took days hanging up to drip dry) there's not a lot of point fixing the sensors if they are just going to get wet again.

With black carpets, the flap is hardly noticeable, as once the seat is moved forward a few inches, it covers over it. Also I use overmats. Mr Nefyn is right. You must not switch on the ignition with the seat unplugged, if you decide to remove it.

There is no need to cut unless you plan to access them and check for water frequently, easier to fix the leak for good and check once or twice a year taking the seat out is four bolts, just my cts. I would not discount shrink wrapping them but no idea how resilient to heat
