Hi Guys iam Chris , had already 4 Bmw Z3 2.8 2.2 2.0 all Manuel and just did buy my first BMW Z3 2.8 Coupe Automatic ,
the car was unused for about 10 years and has very low KM. but has a big problem with the automatic gearboxs , so need some help . car has 72000km
1) feels like the rear axle wil drop of when the car changes gear , very rought , no smooth change rubber mountings look good , already changed the gearboxs oil , was clean , its not slipping just rought and feel the compleet drive line taking a beating when it changing gears . have no Idea if its the boxs ,the diff or Axle .
2) at the trafic lights when a loose the brake a litle bid so the car moves forward ,i feel the car shuddering (feels a bid like a flywheel thats broken and out of balance .(Flexplate broken ?)

what are the most commen problems here on a Z3 with auto box??
Thanks
Chris

Hi Chris welcome. Had a Z3 auto and have a Z4 auto. Both great. Can you record audio or video?

Tony.

Hi and welcome, are you sure its the box and not the rear axle as they are prone to breaking the spot welds on the cross member that the diff mounts to.

Welcome,

Sounds like you need to inspect the boot floor under the carpets in the boot, and also get it in the air and inspect the differential hanger is still attached correctly. Fairly common for the rear subframe to fail.

One member also had the diff casing break too.

Unusual to hear of the boot floor spot welds letting go on an Auto, but it is a possibility.

Hi Chris welcome to the forum,I doubt very much it's the boot floor spot welds being a very low mileage car,I had a similar problem on merc slk ,although totally diffrent cars ,as you say your Zed stood for over 10 years ,it's sounds like a torque convertor problem to me,are the problems worse from cold start up,and gets better when the gearbox is warm?
Jimmy.
