Need something a bit more capacious as the S3 just isn't cutting it. Whilst I can fit my e-bike in the back of it it's a squeeze and I'm going to ruin the interior long term. As it's an S3 it's not type approved for a tow bar and I don't like roof mount carriers. As trade in prices are hilarious right now I'll keep the S3 for a while until I can get around to private sell it.

I've been looking on the usual sale sites for the last few weeks to find myself a decent sized BMW estate. Looked at the usual candidates 3 and 5 series Touring, X3 and X5 all adequate size wise to fit my eBike in the back of comfortably. A localish trader had a couple of Touring's in plus an outsider choice which I thought I'd at least have a look at. The touring was nice except for the gash in the drivers door and swimming pool in the boot . The outsider was a 520d M Sport Gran Tourismo and that won me over on the test drive and decision was made. Not this particular one, it was overpriced for the condition and the salesman thought he was selling gold bars and I walked away.

The golden rule is to always walk away because there's probably something better out there! As it happens, there was and it was and it was £4.2k cheaper - it was 2 years older, 30k more miles, identical spec but with the 30d engine. Waiting to pick it up on Saturday but here are some sneak pics - 2012 530d M Sport GT. Yes, I know it's not one of the best looking BMW's out there and pretty much the definition of car marmite - but I actually quite like it having actually seen it in the flesh and driven it. Still don't understand why they split the tailgate but it is what it is. Few marks on the body work inline with it being 12 years old but the interior is mint! One more sleep till collection, can't wait to pop it on the ramp and see how many bits I'll need to replace =))

The spec is insane for the money - M Sport, 20" alloys (245/40/20 front and 275/35/20 rears), 8spd DCT auto, Pro Nav, reversing camera, heated memory seats & steering column, tilt/slide panoramic roof, cruise control, Bluetooth, power mirrors, power split fold tail gate.

Had a look at a couple of these as a replacement for my Merc estate..you get a lot of car for the money. Even in 2.0l Diesel form it has a fair amount of poke. Out of interest how much are you looking for for the S3?

I haven't got a price in mind as yet feel free to DM me if you want a chat about it though.

Congrats. Enjoy!
One the best built BMWs of the era that unfortunatelly did not have the appearance that the brand enthusiasts expected.
It is very common to see that owners who never had a BMW in their life to be in love with it and say that they will never sell it. (At least in climates that keep rust free it in one piece).
Mark my words, you will have a lot of hesitation when time comes to sell it.
Happy daily motoring.

I do like my 320gt did go to buy a 420 grand coupe but loved the spec on the gt. I like the fact its a bit different, Much bigger cars than the standard saloon. Seems to be a popular daily with zed owners. Perhaps we could have a GT massive tag

Hi @GazHyde
I would be interested in the S3, depending on the age and mileage. I am currently in the market for a 'quick' manual hatchback for SWMBO.

PS: if the auto in the beemer is an 8 speed it's the ZF slushbox, not a dual clutch. Great gearboxes though. :)

Was a brain fuddling, I've got so many car specs in my head right now had mean 8sp ZF. It is super smooth compared to the previous BMW Steptronic I'm more familiar with. The gear change logic is way better as well!

I need to do some thinking on the S3, couple of jobs and then have a look and see what the market is like for pricing! Will let you know :)

I like quirky cars and honestly its nice to have something that stands out in the super market! Was considering a 335d xdrive GT but didn't really got that much price wise.

Picked up yesterday and didn't disappoint, nice to have chance to do some more miles on it driving it to the unit. It's much cleaner underneath than I expected for a 12 year old car with 116k miles.

I'll likely change the airbags as preventative maintenance in the near future.

BMW driveshaft coatings have always been poor, no surprise here! Will rub them down and give them a coat of Hammerite or the likes eventually.

Probably the only BMW diesel ever with an oil leak... =)) Easily sorted!

All good up front, belts in good order.

Found a receipt for discs and pads all round in 2022, may do them again and pop some yellowstuff pads in.

Up on the list for the next few months is wheel refurb, oil leak and possibly the airbags. I may keep an eye out for some nice 19's I like in which case I'll change the wheels.

Otherwise exceptionally happy with the purchase!

Glad to see you back in a BMW 😁 (finally).
Love these.
I seem to remember that the base of this car is actually the 7 series not the 5, hence the better refinement.

From what I've read it's the 7 series chassis and yes it's great to be back in a BMW for now!
