Coming up on 6 months ownership and making the most of summer weather. However already thinking about work needed over the winter.
This is a 2002 with just 45k on the clock. Engine and transmission( and interior ) in good shape

lot of folks seem to be concerned about replacing the cooling system, is that a problem is should address?

I can feel a slight wobble on the wheel under braking so thinking about new discs and pads.

my suspensions looks pretty rusty, wondering about swapping it out for new units with new bushes !

am I overthinking this, or anything else I should consider ?

Welcome aboard suggest you add your location to your user details and exact model of car so they appear when you post, since we are worldwide it assists us answering questions and saves you typing them in each time.
As to the condition of your underside, it looks a bit crusty but more important is the condition of all the rubber bushings on the suspension and ball joints, if they are degrading then replacement a good idea, should be picked up at UK mot time. The rear trailing arm could do with a clean up, wire brushed and rust proofed/painted. You could do the same at the front set up. Under side of the body looks like it had underseal on it at some time and has worn off, clean off and treat with rust convertor then paint and apply a preventative like Lanoguard or Waxoyle.
Engine wise with your mileage its all down to age related degradation of things like rubber hoses and plastic components that suffer from age or repeated heat cycles. If your temp gauge remains rock steady at 12 o'clock the thermostat and water pump are doing ok. Any sign of overheating then a cooling system overhaul would be on the cards. Same for gaskets on cam cover and oil filter housing to block gasket, any signs of oil leaks from these replace with good known brands like Elring or direct from BMW. Body wise check out the outer sill covers for rust front and rear, any signs of rust take them off and inspect the inner sills for rust.
