So, when I bought my car I noticed the soft-top looked a bit forlorn, and I had already budgeted for a new top. But, looking at the prices from different suppliers, I decided that paying a little bit less (always important) upfront was the way to go. I know the top might last a bit longer if I spent £1,200.00 on it but...

Last Saturday I took the car from Ramsey (Huntingdonshire) to Croydon to get a new top fitted by Soft-Tops. The trip was a blast (not), because as soon as I got to the old A14 the top lock on the driver's side popped open, and I couldn't close it again. By the time I got to the M11 I gave up, pulled over, and got the top down. The weather wasn't horrible, but driving down to Croydon, top down, wasn't part of my plans...

Anyway, Croydon still is as run-down and unappealing as I remembered, and waiting around for hours for the new top to be installed was dreadful. The new soft-top though is pretty nice — no leaks and a back window I can actually see through. All for the princely sum of £595.00. ;)

Worth mentioning: thanks to @spurs fan in a coupe I had a set of salvaged top locks, so I was able to get that installed with the new soft-top. Everything is working absolutely fine now and the top opens and closes (and remains closed) as expected.

Oh, and just something I forgot to mention: that price also included new tensioning cables and new rear window rubber seals. Great value for money, me thinks.

Any photos?
Sorry, I will take some photos tomorrow. It looks pretty much like the original, minus the relief pockets that were deleted anyway from 2000 (I think) onwards.

Here are a few pictures of the original hood, showing how bad it looked. Whoever changed the rear window decided to glue it, in addition to zipping it up.

I will post images of the new top tomorrow, once the car is up from its slumber and the sun is shining again. :p

The extension lead showing on pic 3 is there for the humidifier I am running. Waiting for summer to take the carpet out and dry it properly…
