Set off to Stockport on a early foggy morning for the fitting of the Z's new roof. Clear and beautiful as ever over the Woodhead pass arriving at the usual stationary traffic at Tintwistle. Settling down for the crawl through when what seemed like the most terminal bang up the rear (no jokes please). Got out expecting the worse certainly not expecting to be continuing my journey with thoughts of "Write Off" flooding my mind. At the rear a Vauxhall combi van. To my total surprise and incredible relief not a mark on the Z and just a broken number plate on the Combi.
Quick check of the bumper alignment everything where it should be, another check of the paint, not a mark so took the details of the owner, driver and reg number and away we went to spend the day in Stockport.
Feeling both Lucky and Unlucky in one emotion. Bit of a warning but shows what a great solid and well designed car the little Z is!

I once had a similar experience. I stopped at a Zebra crossing and heard and felt a loud bang from the rear. I got out expecting the worst but no damage at all to either car. I think the noise came from a clapping of number plates against the bumper.

Pleased to hear you and the Zed are OK Paul:thumbsup:. I had a similar event on a very wet M42 a couple of years back. I stopped, the car behind me did but the car behind her didn't and rammed the car behind into me. Very loud bang but no major damage.

It is horrible around there and they're wanting a by pass but not sure how it would be achieved. Certainly would cost millions but you feel for the local people.

Tony.

Glad your ok. I'd still check carefully. Bumpers can take an awful lot of deformation and look ok. It's behind that can take damage. I just hope it was indeed more noise than anything else.

Worth checking but should be OK, I have since had my bumper off to fit parking sensors and there is no damage.

We can for the better part control what goes on in front of us but those behind dictate what happens back there! Glad no injuries or damage done, JIM

Finally weather good enough for a few pictures of the new roof, Its a bit tight hence the need to keep it closed for a couple of weeks.
It seems well fitted, with the attention to detail including at no extra charge, renovating the seals and although i wasn't aware replacing a finishing strip that was missing, (taken off a Z3 owned by Paul at the Soft top shop!)
