After the glowing reports I decided to take the plunge and buy a new roof from BAS

Mine is almost perfect but being picky as it was stored with the roof down, the fold marks were at odds with the milage :(

So after dealing with owen a BAS my new hood arrived - all looked great until I spotted a human hair laminated into the rear screen, I called BAS and even without question they sent out another and collected the first. Perfect!

They recommended a local fitter who I have used before but lost his number. Anyway it is being fitted on Monday so Ill post up pics

I went for blue with relief pockets and no stamp in the rear screen :D

Can I ask what the cost of the roof was. Is the rear window sewn in and whats the cost to fit it?

That's all good news - re above, knowing where you are based, who is the local fitter or the general area they are in, I have a reason for asking :D

Guys

The cost of the roof including VAT and delivery was £390. Our local fitter is called Joe Galeano and he's and older chap who has been fitting hoods for years. I had him replace a roof on my boxster a few years back and he was bang on.

He has quoted me £170 to fit is its £560 all in.

It is indistinguishable from the outside and the only difference is that the rear screen is bonded and sewn in as opposed to being zipped.

I exhausted a search to obtain someone who could supply a hood with a zipped roof but BMW have it all tied up in contractual terms so it's a BMW buy and triple the cost :(

Its being done on Monday so all being well I'll get some piccies up :x

matt, did you have to ask up front for no stamp?

very good fitting cost, most charge over 200 pounds.

It is a pity there is not an after market one that has the zip window.
The stitched ones are fine but don't you have to replace the whole roof once the window splits? :(

I am led to believe the material for the window is just as durable as the fabric.

I unpacked it and compared it to my current roof and its awesome and has exeeded my expectations - just hope it fits now :D

Heres some pics of my current roof - it's pretty mint but not perfect. How much would I get for it if I sold it?

Your current roof look in better condition than mine and you are changing it?

Used roofs sell for around £150 on Ebay but with the condition your is in it should do £200 plus.

Your roof is 100 times better than mine can't see why you'd want to change it

same quality as mine (without rear window!)

still changing mine, as it has flat sports and wear marks that you cannot remove :(

if i was matt, i would change it too.

unless its perfect it can make the car look less than perfect.

Well, new roof was fitted today and to say I'm impressed is an understatement!

First off, from the outside the roof is indistinguishable from OEM. I am a pretty fussy customer to say the least and the quality is 100%

The ONLY way to tell is to climb inside, zip down the windbreaker and observe the lack of a zip.

The fitter is called Joe Galleano and he has been fitting soft tops for 37 years straight from school. He is based in the NW however travels nationwide and I can HIGHLY recommend him. He is very professional, a true gent and his work is perfect. If anyone wants his details then pm me.

Heres the pics
