My first BMW. Bought for a bit of summer fun a 97 car with 98k on the clock. It was a relatively cheap car which with a little effort can be brought into shape to look presentable. I was impressed with the way it drove, engine is quiet with no strange noises, no clunks or bumps and stops without fuss. I am hoping for no nasty surprises at MOT time. I'm also hoping I can do some of the servicing myself. Any tips/ advice for a new owner.

Hello from Truro. Drive it, drive it, drive it

Servicing is pretty straight forward and lots of "jobs" on these great little cars are well within the scope of most owners

welcome to the forum Martin, the common problems for these are the stock rads are weak, the stock water pump has plastic blades, the rocker cover may leak and the oil filter housing also the seat motors can go the roof may leak and the hood motor can cause problems if electric.
Dont be afraid lol as long as these things dont all go at once you will be fine :) just some things to keep in mind and keep a look out for ;-)
if you have any issues you are in the right place, great bunch of guys and gals here and all very helpfull
Dave

I'm in Bedfordshire. The car is no way mint has a few car park dints and the odd scrape. The interior is quite tidy, black leather. The seats need re bushing as there is slight movement, the paintwork needs mopping, and the wheels could do with a refurb, tyres okay but odd. It has a spare but the rust has got hold of it and the seal is not good will not hold 60 psi. Has the original radio cassette with 6 CD changer in the boot. Has a new hood. And does drive quite nicely even pulling in 5th on the motorway.
I'm sure I'll have loads of questions on how to do stuff, it's great to know there is the support of other dedicated owners. I hoping for happy miles with lots of smiles.

Enjoy it in the summer and do the work over the winter. My spare was shot, picked up a nearly new with tyre on eBay for a fiver. Seat bushes took about three hours. You'll soon get there:thumbsup:

Hi from Canada! @Aceman can set you up with seat bushes I believe. Any other questions just throw them out here and you'll usually get a reply in no time. Take a tour of the menu to see what's being offered and where it is and bring back any questions you may have. @spurs fan in a coupe does a lot of breaking so you may be able to fix those dings and dents just by replacing pieces. Hello Martin. The hardest thing about Zed ownership is stopping yourself driving it for long enough to do the work you know you need to do to service/tweak it. I,'m still trying yo finish my first service 9 months later! Great car, good choice. Welcome along
