Greetings everyone! I’ve owned my zed for a week. Just did my first oil and filter change today. This oil was recommended by a local bmw mechanic. Is the oil filter cap usually a bugger to loosen? Anyway, job done, maintenance reminder reset, road tested and no leaks. I’ll soon have to deal with a weepy valve cover gasket, and new struts have been ordered. Welcome aboard the best Z Forum. You have started looking after your Z, always best to change all fluids when you get a new car so you know exactly what's in it. If its a manual gearbox then change that next, don't rely on BMW telling you its filled for life, same for the Diff oil. Always make sure you can get the refill plugs out before draining the fluids, once out go ahead and take the drain plugs out.

Thank you for the suggestion. My plan is to do the diff fluid next. I did notice the rubber differential mount has deteriorated. Any advice on changing that out?

If you want to replace the Diff. Eye bush with rubber type you'll need to remove the rear case to press the old one out and new one in.
If you're replacing it with a "Poly" type bush it can be done without removing the rear case, by lowering the diff. on a trolley jack.

Tony.

I saw an interesting YouTube about the poly bushings. I’m not interested in race versions, but maybe a regular type. I might go poly. Won’t wear out like rubber.

Hi and welcome from me. As Tony states the diff cover would have to be removed, you can press the old one out with a large socket in a large vice. If doing it in situ for a poly bush just make sure you saw the metal banding towards the main bulk of the casing just in case you nick it with the blade as it would cause a weak point on the thinner part of the ring.
