Hi. I am a new member to the forum. I have one of the older z3 models a black 1997 1.9 . I have had it about 2 years but as I am now semi retired hopefully come the spring I will have more time to devote to it.
I have the following questions if someone could reply I would be very grateful.
1 is there a Bmw club in Birmingham or West Midlands
2.does anyone know of a classic car insurer that will insure the car at a reasonable price
3. Has anyone had any problems with their wing mirrors dropping off ! Drivers side in my case. I either need to know where I can get one or does anyone know who repairs them
I love the car it just needs some tlc !

Adrian

Welcome Adrian green, in answer to your question regarding mirrors, yes they are a known issue with the Zeds, the alloy becomes brittle and seizes at the base any attemp to then move the mirror and it snaps like a carrot, two ways to fix it- buy second hand mirror but these can go for £120, or get the repair kit from Ebay:http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-Z3-Outside-Mirror-Driverside-repair-kit-with-Socket-Top-/161561051760?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&fits=Model:Z3&hash=item259dca0270

The repair Kit is an easy fix, just open your mirror casing up remove the gubbins and replace with the new mirror part, and replace your old casing. I would recommend going for the repair Kit as buying second hand you never know the condition of the part is in and you could be in the same position again, but with the repair kit it will last a lifetime. I have recently done mine using this repair kit so if you need any further info let me know.

PS: With the repair kit You can re use your old colour coded base plate and casing on the mirror, provided it is in good condition, this will stop you having to get the part painted. Or they will pre paint the base plate for you.

Welcome Adrian,

So many questions and so few pictures (hint, hint) :D Seriously though, there isn't a specific Birmigham BMW club I can think of off the top of my head. We tend to run plenty of meets during the year within easy reach of most people here.

We have a couple of insurers on here you could try - Chris Knott & Prestige. You can find their details at the bottom of the main forum list.

TaffZee has you covered for the wing mirrors, although there are a couple of write ups in the Articles section on how to take them apart and reassemble the units.

Cheers, Gary

Hi Adrian and welcome from me too near Lincoln. I insure with BeWiser and I find they're very reasonable for insuring a 3rd car.

Tony.

:welcome: - Adrian hope you enjoy it on here.
TaffZee has already given you good information on wing mirrors - wish I had known about that when mine failed.
If you are of a certain age, then try Saga for insurance - they came out best for me.

Welcome to the forum from Leamington!

The replacement that TaffZee linked on eBay is a great product, I bought them pre-painted. Contact the seller, Udo directly at info@spiegel-z3.de (quote zroadster.org for a 10% discount) I paid around £85 per mirror with the base painted incl postage.

Cheers

Hi Adrian
Welcome from me in Walton on Thames.
I am currently insuring my 1999 Z3.1.9 through Chris Knott for £180, fully comp with one other named driver.
They give a very good service and also find the best price.
Saga are also very competitive for the older driver.
Good Luck
