Hello everyone, I'm a new member, I'm currently on the look out for a z3.

I'm from Newcastle upon Tyne and fast approaching fifty, I'm looking forward to browsing the site for hints, tips and inspiration.

I've never owned a BMW before so I'm looking forward to it.

Welcome from Canada! Lots of choices for Zeds in the UK especially at this time of year. Do your homework and ask questions and you'll get the right car for you. Good luck, JIM

Hi again everyone,

Firstly thanks for a very warm welcome, in terms of what I'm after, if I'm being brutally honest here I'm not really sure, my main reason is that I want one to do a tour of the UK in next year as part of my 50th birthday celebrations. I've never owned a roadster before my car history is a bit chequered, ranging from a Mini Metro ( a truly dreadful car) to my Subaru impreza WRX pro drive ( a scary drive) but there's been lots of others in between.

I've read that the 1.8, 1.9's are a bit under powered so I'm ideally looking for a 2.2 or 2.8' it's not going to be a daily driver more of a weekend car.

I was surprised at how reasonable they are to insure too, I got a quote for a 2.8 at £168.00 fully comp.

My budget is probably going to be around the 4k mark.

I joined the site to see your shared experiences and pick up some tips on what to look out for.

Malicious rumour put about by M owners , one in particular, who will no doubt comment soon.;)

Seriously, it depends on your driving style and where you are driving - the M44 has enough oomph! for most `legal' British road conditions and there are enough of us on here in the M44 Massive. Size maybe a man thing but it doesn't matter in a Zed 3!:)
Good luck.

Thank you this is the sort of response I was hoping for, I am totally open minded though, having not driven one yet, partly due to a temporary back injury :(

I look forward to hearing what the other forum member has to say.

Suffice to say that I am a middle aged man my days of ragging a car about are long gone, I'm more interested in the driving experience.

I've originally bought a 2.0 6cyl (150bhp), which to be honest was quick enough for me, and it could more than keep up on some of the Welsh cruises that TaffZee runs if driven to the red line. Not sure why I discounted the 4 pots when I made the decision originally, probably more through ignorance than any real balanced decision.

When that got scrapped I bought a 2.2 6cyl, which is just that bit more powerful (170bhp) and doesn't need to be driven quite as hard as the 2.0. Was looking for the 3.0 6cyl, but couldn't find any decent ones at the time.

Not driven any of the 4 pot engines, so can't comment on those. Had a go in a mates Z3M quite a few years ago, and that thing was darn quick - and started my obsession for Zeds :)

I started out with a 2.0 and got hooked, loved that car and it had plenty of get and go but like most men always dreaming of something bigger, faster more POWER !! It's a bit like tools really you always want a bigger drill !! Anyway got a 3.0 now and love the little more power it has, it's dam quick if you want to go quick and it's dam slow if you want to go slow !! I love it !!
