Hi and welcome from London, the lift motor can jam at its extremes if this is the case the seat needs removing and the worm drive manually turning free

Hi @geoffd, to the forum from me too in Staffordshire. Good luck sorting the seat problem, as @Slam says they sometimes get stuck. Or there is a coin got wedged, either way there is not much room under there so it'll probably be a seat out job. If you do take out the seat do not turn on the ignition or you will then have an air bag light on the dash. Easily sorted with a reset tool if you have one.

As others have said, first try removing the seat and winding it back a bit, as it might have reached the end and come off the thread.
After that check the motor and then switch.
