Hi @fmtz3,:welcome: to the forum from me too in Staffordshire, UK. I agree about the knob/switch, never seen one in a Zed before, must be aftermarket. I'd be following Tony's advice and try to follow the wires. Best of luck:thumbsup:

Hi all just wanted to introduce myself and my new ride. Bought a 97 z3 2.8 a month ago and I absolutely love the car. 89000 miles and exceptional condition. I’ve been busy detailing every weekend and can’t wait for the weather here to warm up so I can take her for a drive. Ordered some parts from bimmerworld to bring the car back to top shape , just the usual control arm bushings (slight shimmy at 40mph) water pump , thermostat w/aluminum housing , new aluminum pulley and belt. I’m finding the information on this thread invaluable as I work on the car. I bought my wife a 2015 328i xdrive sportline 3 years ago and its a fantastic car to drive but it’s still under warranty and doesn’t need any work hence the new toy. While I have your attention maybe someone could enlighten me as to the purpose of one of the knobs on the dash. Check out attached pic.

Different market spec but they were all built in SC. My next best guess is try to follow the wiring (again, assuming there are wires connected to this switch) and see where it leads to. No info in the book pack that came with the car?

Tony.
Hi tony
I followed your suggestion to follow the wiring. There are several wires attached to this switch.I had to drop the panel under the dash and there are two groups of wiring leading to two different components mounted in the front intake/bumper . I’ve attached a couple of pictures the first one showing the wires coming off of the control and the following pictures show the two components mounted in the front intake.i have no idea what these electronics do,but no doubt they were probably standard on the Bond Z3
