I own a 2000 BMW Roadster 2.8 with a 130,000 Kilometers on the clock. What does BMW RECOMMEND BE REPLACED AND OR SERVICED FOR A VEHICLE OF THIS AGE AND KILOMETERAGE?

Regards David

:welcome: to the Forum from West Cumbria. Lots to consider but most importantly what's been done already so you don't waste money (if history tells you it's been done). That aside, the cooling system is a good start, VANOS overhaul if required, bushes, especially rear beem bushes, shockes etc.

In general, all rubber items in the engine bay. Do you have any previous bills for service and repairs. Share the reg. No., by PM if you want, then the MOT history can be checked.

It really depends on the known history of the car as to what needs doing.
Whenever I buy a used car I always carryout an oil service and change gearbox and Diff fluids then I know for certain whats in it and have the added assurance that its been done right.
I would use 5W-40 Synthetic engine oil on a high mileage car.
Some models use ATF in the gearbox, correct fluid would have been on a label on the side of the gearbox but thats long gone by now. If it came with a drivers handbook it will list the recommended fluids.
As already mentioned all the rubber suspension bushes need checking as well as ball joints. past MOT's are a mine of info on the previous fails and advisories.

An MOT cert shows what is on the odometer, miles or Km. Regardless of what it shows it should still be recorded on the MOT history if it's been used in the UK (or Europe).

I'm probably wrong but I just assumed the OP is outside the UKnand therefore not MOTing

You could be right but that info applies.

Yeah, a chap I used to work with emigrated to NZ to train up to do WOF inspections. After few years he moved to Queensland. Over here each MOT test is logged on the system showing anything the vehicle failed on, or, if it passed with advisory comments by the tester. If the same advisory items are still there on the next test (or have become failures) it kind of shows that the owner maybe doesn't care for the car very much and as such may be better avoided.

Looking for a project, found one 1998 M44.
@t-tony i suspect the Z3 I just bought is originally from Northern Ireland, can I source mot history from NI as I can’t seem to find on internet. @David Nuttall welcome i’m a newbie as well, but already been well worth it, they are knowledgeable and very friendly group.

NI is part of the UK and as far as I’m aware use our MOT system, so the history should be available by putting the reg. no. Into any MOT checker site. Plenty to choose from in the App. Store etc.

Why an App? Do the apps give more info than the standard dvla history checker.webpage?

No mot history on dvla prior to 2021. Servicing carried out at Bavarian bmw which I believe is in Northern Ireland. Looked on Northern Ireland DvLA equivalent and it doesn’t have online mot data base. If you put a NI vehicle number plate on dvla mot history website nothing comes up. As I was looking at z3 in NI and did that search.
Unless it operator error highly likely!!!!
