hi, I would like to introduce myself. I have a 1998 bmw z3 2.8 with 57k miles. I've saw the car on cl and I just fell in love with it. set up a meeting with the guy whom was selling it and as soon as I saw the car I just wanted to take it home and cuddle with it, lol. it was perfect, wide body, fat ass tires, stick shift it was just perfect. I knew before hand that the brand it was expensive to maintain and parts were also very expensive, non the less, I was in love with it.
the guy told me that the got the car from an older guy that purchased the car to drive around with his wife but the wiener died and he basically parked the car for god knows how many years. so the car was just abandoned and neglected. I took the car home 3 days after meeting the guy and that is when all the issues started to show up. the main issue was the engine light, but the car ran fine non the less, long story short, I took the car to the dealer ship and 4 bmw specialists and they all gave me different diagnostics, after spending close to 5k between shops the issue was that the MAF was the wrong part number. spent 800 bucks to get the right MAF and the engine light went away. I spent another 3k replacing sensor, coil overs, I even updated the ecu firmware before replacing the MAF, which was the sole issue of the problem. friends told me just to sell it as it was, but I was already in to it way too much to give up. I finally got the correct MAF and everything was fine, car runs like a dream now, it even passed smog the first try. the issue now is that since the car was neglected for so long, there's a Lot of rust under the car, bushings are done etc.
but there is no way im giving up in it. so far I've spend all and all close to 10k. driving the car is literally, the only thing that makes me happy, oh and I replace the oem muffler with a super sprint one and omg its sounds amazing.
