Just acquired a 2006 Z4 E85 3.0si (just over 30,000 miles) and love it! My previous "smiles/fun" vehicle was a 1958 Chevy Apache Pickup truck, so working on this BMW will be like working on a space ship vs. working on a farm tractor. LOL
My most annoying problem now is related to convertible top closure. So I'll seek out the correct thread and be asking questions.......
Many thanks

Hi Tony-
The roof opens normally to full open (ie. windows drop and roof opens ). At that point, the dreaded flashing red light continues to flash. It will close and lock, but the windows don’t go up as the computer never recognizes that it opened.
I am assuming the problem is probably one of the hall sensors in the pillar behind the driver’s seat (passenger seat over there).
I am stuck at this time on how to test the sensor and wondering if I have to remove the roof in order to replace it.

Might be the GM5 Module that lives above and behind the interior fuse board playing up, that has relays in it for central locking and window movements ususal problem is with the central locking relays on the pcb inside the module but not unknown for the window ones to develop faults. If you can find a used spare module it should be plug and play so you could try replacement before delving into finding the hall sensors. We have people and companies here in the UK that repair these modules which can be better as it retains any coding specific to your car, a replacement may have different coding for functions and your keys will have to be resynced if another module is fitted. Not a problem just the finger dance with the key fob buttons to sync them one after the other so they both sync the same.
