Quick hello

Just purchased a 1998 z3 2.8 manual in silver.

Long history, good body work , good roof but tiny bit of rust on the arches / sills.

Planned jobs

Rust , this is tiny atm. Could I get away with spraying something over it ?

Seats are sliding forward , new heated seats or bushes.

M50 intake to release some more power ?

Hardtop - would love one but due to cost this will be one the last things.

Floor matts , could do with new ones.

And obviously a service!

Ps from northern ireland

Hi & Welcome to the forum :welcome: If you have rust at either end of your sills, I would strongly recommend getting them off and sorting them out ASAP I really wouldn't spray over them. You would be amazed at how much crud will be behind them.

Hi Chris, welcome from near Lincoln, enjoy your new car!. If you're planning for it to be a summer car in the main consider gathering info regarding treatment of the rusty panels while enjoying using the car through the summer and use the cooler months for body repairs etc. Which ever way you go about it have fun and keep us posted with progress reports and pictures.

Tony.

Hello and welcome to the forum,
As said by others get the sills off and check what is going on underneath. It is not too much of a job and there are several write ups on here.
Expect to have rust to treat and protect on the inner sill, the bit you can see now (sill outer) is just a cover panel and not structural. The sill outer may be restorable, or can be replaced, where the best option is from the BMW dealer.
Remember to pull the jack pads out and treat the underlying metal.
Plenty of work to do but make the most of the summer.

Welcome along Chris. I recommend getting to know your new motor over the summer by driving it when you can. If the rust on the sills at either end has holed the panels then its best to replace them in the winter. The box section under neath the sills is usually in good shape. Good luck
Cheers,

Jonno

Welcome, looks like you have a very tidy 2.8 on your hands, unlike the one I just stole :D
