Good morning,

Just about time to introduce myself...

I'm Pim, live close to Haarlem in the Netherlands and have been quite active on the Dutch Z3 forum (www.z3forum.nl) using the same forum alias, including how-to-writing and organising tours.

We've had (officially it's HER car...) our Arctic Silver Z3 for just over three years now: a 1997 2.8, imported from Germany by its previous owner. Currently 194K km/121K mls on the counter, over a quarter of that -just over 50K km- was 'produced' by us.

It had front damage which was repaired professionally using original BMW parts: new PS oil cooler, new bumper, bonnet, headlights, wings, ...
The clear headlights that went in make it look much younger than she actually is.

I don't only enjoy driving it, I've also done a [few] upgrades and most of its maintenance:
  • clear sidemarkers & rear lights
  • new sound system, including a 300GB USB harddisk
  • roll hoop retrofit
  • //M interior retrofit, including door panels & steering wheel
  • uprated front suspension: //M bushings and Meyle hardware
  • KW V1 coilovers
  • as-new Styling 18 wheels (the set it came with had serious kerbing marks)
  • uprated front brake disks & pads
  • Innnoparts aluminium strut bar
  • Stahlflex brake hoses
  • Z8 wiper nozzles
  • new softtop
  • short aerial & fresh grommet
  • clutch stop
  • new water pump and viscous clutch for the cooling fan
  • spacers: 10mm front, 20mm rear
  • short shift mod using Z3 //M components

Oh, and there are some performance mods, too:
  • M50 intake manifold conversion
  • Vanos overhaul
  • ASC delete
  • uprated injectors
  • big bore throttle body
  • uprated software
  • K&N 57i induction kit (which might go, I don't like the resonance noise at >6000rpm)

It should now deliver something in the 230-240 hp range, but I haven't had time to get her through a dyno run yet... A video of the engine's behaviour with the M50 manifold, but before the BBTB/ASC delete mod can be viewed here.

My to-do list is gradually emptying, with only a dashboard mod (adding gauges to the center console, already got the parts in) and a front axle big brake kit on it for now...

A brief and boring update: I dropped her off for the annual MOT this morning.
The garage owner looked almost disappointed when I picked her up this evening: passed without the slightest comment...
Not bad for 16 years old and almost 200.000km(120+K miles) on the counter!
