No diesels now in our household, and I'm pretty chuffed with this little Fabia we've had for a few weeks, so I thought I'd share the joy.

1.2cc petrol turbo engine with 109 bhp, six speed manual box.

Averaging 46mpg at the moment, £20 to tax for a year. It averaged 55mpg on our motorway journey home.

Really easy, and pleasant to drive, loads of kit like DAB radio, glass roof, rear parking sensors with display on screen, leather multi function steering wheel, radar on the front that'll warn you if you're about to hit another car, it'll supposedly apply the brakes for you. Smart link for your phone, latest infotainment system etc..

And the best bit, a lot cheaper than a Golf with a similar spec, and drives just as well.

If you're looking to get something small then I suggest trying one of these, that's if you can live with the badge.

Had two Octavia L&Ks as company cars some years ago, great cars Skoda then had a Passat as I wanted a change and hated it! Go figure.
