I think you just have Rich;). Yes great first race, everything mixed up, superb. I think after a few races the teams will have a better idea of what's going on, then we'll start to see some movement. Great result for McLaren - 'bout time after a pretty c**p year last year.

I think it is a well deserved change to the sport, let's hope there is a similar change in professional football soon also.......

I turned the F1 off after about 30 mins, got bored, the cars sound like ducks farting and it was just a procession Ok it was the first race of the season with a new formula, but I went upstairs to the computer and watched & listened to some V12 ferraris of the 60's, then felt much better!

Main gripe as with most people is the sound, or lack of it, commentators in the pit lane and you can hear what they are saying. That can't be right. The big man of formula one wants something done about it now but the "new" engines have been heard on the internet for a long time now. But Bernie has been preoccupied I guess.

The F1 drivers championship was being suffocated by too many rules and ridiculous things like DRS and tyres designed to wear out prematurely. If tyre manufacturers were given a free hand to develop longer lasting F1 tyres, this benefit would filter down to the ordinary family cars, the same way that disc brakes are now universal. Drivers have to drive to 'save' their tyres and slow down to save fuel. They should be able to drive as hard as they can and call in for tyres or fuel etc. when they they or the team decide to. The teams would have to build in flexibility and reliabilty to their cars and rely much more on the driver to change settings to so many things that are monitored and adjusted from a bank of computers and monitor screens.

Am I an old fart? Well perhaps, but I can remember seeing Jim Clark, and others of that era, driving out of their skins to unlap themselves, without having to think about a mandatory tyre change or three. Pure driving!

I really started to get in to F1 about three years ago and attended my first race in India 2011 and vowed to attend a different race each year (funds permitting), the sound of the cars were just awesome the noise deafening just fantastic
2012 went to Silverstone and again the noise is what drew me in, the smell of those V8's roaring around the track

Last year was fortunate enough to go to the Singapore race and even got to walk the track and enter the pits !!

My idea is I can get to attend one race a year then it's a great way to see a little bit of the world too while enjoying a great sport but must admit the first race was a little disappointing for me purely down to the noise really !

I get the DRS, fuel and tyre options as it's all about overtaking that makes racing, last year was a little too dominated by RedBull as you knew once Vettle started and led the first lap he would go on to win the race and with no one getting close to attempt an overtake makes for a boring race

I think they need more noise from the cars or people will lose a little interest

The best driver in the best car in the best team will, barring incidents, usually win whatever the rules are. But my point is that drivers are not free to drive at the best of their abilities. How many times have we heard Lewis Hamilton being told to slow down to conserve his tyres? His replies not suitable for public consumption! It's easy to overtake someone on a straight when you suddenly find you have another 10-15 mph in hand, and then be re-passed next time round when the boot is on the other foot. Unfortunately F1 is modelled for the viewing masses to enjoy. Shame really.

The noise is lame, I don't think anybody can disagree on that.

Nevertheless, on the subject of having for instance 100 kg of fuel instead of 133kg.
As I heard a commentator say, 2 years ago, no F1 car would be able to finish a GP with only 100 kg of fuel (even if he tiptoed round).
Now some teams say that in some races they won't even need the 100kg of fuel and will be able to drive full-on all the time without even needing 100kg of fuel.
They might even not put in the 100kg of fuel that they can, to save the weight.

There were remarks on the Kers-systems over the past years too. This has evolved even further now.
This is something we will ALL be having in our new cars in 5-10 years time.
Putting the new Kers-system in place, and having 160 BHP extra from that, meant that they had to bring down the engines themselves (power new kers + power new engine = power old engine).

Our beloved Z3bis will charge it's capacitor slowing down before the traffic light and we will give the electric boost flying off when the light turns green....and we will still have a smile ear to ear :)
